The first thing Scott Landry, owner and architect at Studio 101 Designs, noticed when he approached the house in San Rafael, California, was the dramatic bay view. From the property, you could see from McNear Peninsula to the East Bay, all the way to Southern Marin. Landry’s vision for the home’s contemporary remodel centered around maintaining the view, enhancing it, and working around it. With 50 to 60 windows in the house, Landry’s challenge was finding the right product. Landry chose the Marvin Ultimate collection for the Bayview House. Case Study: A Contemporary Remodel for a Breathtaking Bayview Home

Homeowners Joe Cruz and Jane Kuenzel wanted their contemporary new build to be comfortable and connected to the outdoors. Cruz and Kuenzel worked with Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig, an architect Cruz has long admired. Kundig’s ability to create connections between his contemporary designs and the surrounding landscape was exactly what the couple was looking for. Cruz affectionately nicknamed the second floor of Kundig’s design “Jewel Box.” Floor-to-ceiling modern-style windows wrap the elevated living space. These windows maximize transparency and provide a view overlooking the river bluff. “The house has a very unique layout where Olson Kundig has brought the living space to the second level, which has put them up in this canopy of the trees so the homeowners can be among leaves and birds in the summer and enjoy an expansive view of the river parkway in the fall and winter,” said Andrew Volkenant from Streeter Custom Builder. The home’s final design fused the natural with advancements in smart home technology. The homeowners worked with Advanced Home, a smart home integration company, to install automated awning and casement windows from Marvin Connected Home. Case Study: Modern Smart Home Combines Nature and Technology

Innovation was essential to the build of this mid-century modern-style home located in the foothills of Boulder, Colorado. The homeowners’ wanted to stay connected to the surrounding natural beauty, even while indoors. This sense of indoor-outdoor living was achieved using the Marvin Modern collection. Case Study: Cutting-Edge Technology and Architectural Design Fuse in Boulder Smart Home

Building a contemporary home in the Puget Sound wilderness provided many challenges for architect Dan Shipley and builder Peter Bates. The two had to cut through bramble, shrubbery, and overgrowth, manage the swampy landscape, and avoid the 60-foot cliff to build homeowner Rick Whitworth’s home on Marrowstone Island. Whitworth became enamored with the area during his Naval career. The home combines elements of Southern homebuilding and the Puget Sound wilderness; a “dog trot” connects the main living space with the guest space. The interior of the home is encased in warm wood. Straight-grain Douglas Fir flooring runs to the Marvin Ultimate wood windows and up the walls. “The Marvin Ultimate line was great because they are so customizable, and you can talk to the factory, and you can talk to the reps, and they'll work with you to say, ‘What are you trying to accomplish?
